A Catastrophe

Anyone remember this?

Well, the collection came out on the 5th.  I know I said I was going to be first line, but I underestimated my competition.  I should have learned from my mistake the last time I suppose.  Target opened at 8 am Sunday morning.  I got there around 10:30.  I thought I was early.

I was so wrong.  I was told people had lined up outside like it was Black Friday.

This collection was completely picked over.  There were probably less than 20 articles left, and of course none were my size.  I snagged one thing.  In a large.  I am not a large, but I tried it on, belted it, and it looked okay.
This is it people!

This is what I picked up.  It really is big, and there is a slight possibility that I will return it.

I rushed home to check Target online.  Same story, nothing but larges and extra larges.  I checked eBay, remembering what happened with Missoni, and it was the same.  Tons of things on eBay, with the prices jacked way way up.  It is a bit ridiculous.  And I am very sad.

Did you get anything?  Were you one of the camper-outers that cleaned the stores out?

Sunday Dinner 2.5.12

A SuperBowl Sunday dinner. (Yay Giants!!!)

This week I made polenta with tomato sauce and mozzarella.  It is really good, kind of like an eggplant parmesan type thing, but with polenta and you don't have to bake it (but you can if you want, I sometimes do.)

You can make your own polenta if you'd like, but I bought mine pre made.

This is the best brand of tomato sauce ever!  I used the arrabbiata because it is a bit spicy and adds a little more flavor.

Cut the polenta into slices about a quarter inch thick.
Put them in a pan with a bit of nonstick spray on medium heat.  You may want to brown the pieces a little bit on each side, but I didn't.
Put a thin layer of sauce
 Then a slice of mozzarella
 Then a little more sauce
Then just cover and cook for a few minutes until the cheese it melted and its nice and warm.

Top with parmesan cheese and a little bit of pepper, and you're done!

As a side, I just sliced some cucumber and sprinkled on a bit of salt and pepper.

If you wanted to bake this, you do it the way you would a lasagna.  Layer everything in a baking dish and throw it in the oven.  I just making it in a pan a little faster and easier to make a small amount.  I also sometimes end up with slightly soggy polenta if I use the oven method.

There you have it folks, another fast, easy recipe, but definitely delicious!

Love and Toast Part II

I went back and picked up the gin blossom perfume, so I figured I would review this one quickly as well.

This perfume is citrusy and refreshing, also perfectly light and airy.  It is also has hints of sweet floral, but citrus dominates the scent.  I really love this one.  Again, the lasting power is good, and it is not overpowering.

I still highly recommend you check out the Love and Toast by Margot Elena line!!

Love and Toast

I bought some perfume today.  From the grocery store.  Yes, you read that right.  I was walking through the beauty aisle and I spotted it.  My grocery store has a pretty good natural beauty selection (kind of like the Whole Foods Whole Body line.)  I saw a colorful display of perfumes and hand creams.  Being a bit of a scent fanatic, I obviously had to stop and smell some.

The brand is called Love and Toast by Margot Elena, the same woman behind Lollia and TokyoMilk.

There were a bunch of products, including large and small perfumes, hand cream, lip balm, and roller ball perfume.  Like I said, I was immediately drawn to the packaging.  It is colorful and happy, and each scent has a little sketch that goes onto it's packaging.

I got the honey coconut and paper flower scents.  I almost got gin blossom, but I decided against it at the last second (though I may pick it up next time.)  I got the small bottle, .33 oz, because it is a good way to test out a scent.  They were 9 dollars each, while the full sized 3.3 oz bottles were 28 I believe, so they are fairly affordable.

These perfumes are so delicious smelling.  They are perfectly light and easy.  I find them to be more summery daytime scents, which is a nice change after a winter of heavier scents.  The honey coconut has a gentle, warm sweetness.  It's a bit vanilla-y.  It reminds me of lying on a beach.  The paper flower is a sweet, soft floral, not too overpowering or harsh, and not musky.  (For the record, I tend to go for muskier scents, especially in the winter, and I dislike super sweet scents, so I find these a touch sweet, but you may not find them sweet at all.)

The scent is pretty concentrated but like I said, not too strong or overpowering.  They last fairly long on the skin, and I didn't notice too much of a change when the scent settled.

I am very pleased with these happy little perfumes! I want to test out a few more scents, but I see a full size in my future.  Have you tried a Margot Elena product?
