Out to Lunch

Out to Lunch

I sense an obsession coming on.  I'll try not to spam the blog with these sets though if you prefer not.

Also, I have this perfume and I love it and highly recommend it! And I am obsessed with that Mulberry bag... Sigh, if only.

Sunday Dinner 3.4.12

Back to my Sunday dinner posts!

Pearl Couscous with Pesto and Goat Cheese Gratin

This is one of my go to recipes.  I just really love it, and it is pretty simple.  This recipe is from Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything Vegetarian.  This recipe is also very easily adaptable.  It calls for asparagus and mushrooms, but you can really use anything you want.  I have made it with broccoli and green beans, and I am sure there are tons of other delicious things to use instead.  But I like asparagus and mushrooms, so I use them most often.

Ingredients:
1 shallot (I normally use about 1/3 of a yellow onion because they are cheaper and more easily accesible.  But I forgot it at the grocery store)
1 cup wild mushrooms
8 ounces asparagus cut into 1 inch peices
1/2 cup of cream, milk, stock, or water
1/2 cup of pesto
1 egg
2 1/2 cups of cooked pearl couscous
4 ounces of goat cheese.

Side note: I dont really like to measure, so it may say something like 1 cup of mushrooms, but I just kind of put however many I feel like or how ever many look good.

I couldn't find regular pearl couscous at the grocery store, so I bought this:

It wasn't bad, the garlic I suppose added some more flavor, but I prefer plain pearl couscous.

Grease a dish and set oven to 350.

Heat oil in a pan and saute shallot, mushrooms and asparagus.  (I also added minced garlic) Add salt and pepper to taste.

Whisk the cream/milk/stock/water, egg, and pesto.

When the veggies are done, stir in cooked couscous.  Spread in dish, and pour pesto mixture over top

Spread goat cheese over top.

Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until sides are bubbling and the top has begun to brown.

That's it!  Its really yummy and filling, and has a nice richness from the goat cheese.

If you try the recipe, let me know how you like it or how you adapted it!

Using Up My Makeup

Here is a fun fact: I am kind of obsessed with makeup.  I could spend hours in Sephora or Ulta or the cosmetics section of a department store just playing around with all the products, like a kid in a candy shop.  I tend to buy way more than I can use up.  Since I now have a small stockpile, I decided that I would try to use up some products before buying anything new.  Of course when I run out of something essential that I only have one of (like moisturizer) or something goes bad (mascara) I will replace it, but I want to use up some eye shadows/bases, blushes, and lip products before I buy anymore products in those categories.  I am even including perfumes and chapstick/lip balm type things.

I thought it would be fun to share what I plan to use up/my progress with you all. All of the products are in different stages of "used-ness."  I will just keep switching products out every few weeks, and then slowly things will start to be used up.

Here is a list so far of things I am hoping to use up (some are specific products, some are just like "any eyeshadow")

MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque
Bobbi Brown blush in Slopes
1 chapstick/lipbalm
1 lip color (lipstick/lip butter/lip tint)
2 eyeshadows (single or in a palette)
Sephora Sundisk Bronzer
MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural
Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Peach Satin
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Zero
Tarte Dark Circle Defense concealer
Revlon Colorstay Foundation
1 perfume/body spray

Eventually I am hoping to use up most/all of my stuff, so I can start fresh.  Like spring cleaning but for makeup.  But I thought a shorter list would be easier to tackle.

I also think it will be fun to do a mini review of the product once I use it up so I will plan for those in my updates!

Update!

So sorry I have been gone! I have been a little busy and stressed lately, so I neglected the blog.  I have been going out of town a lot recently and have been trying to settle plans for the future and what not.  But I am working on a bunch of posts, so I will be back soon and hopefully on a regular basis!
